Caring. Healing. Leading.
Mumtaz Health Centre was opened in the summer of 2023. The need for the centre became apparent owing to the devastating situation one couple found themselves in when the pregnant wife was denied the services of an ambulance due to her background. She was about to give birth and there were complications which needed medical assistance. Being poor, the husband couldn't afford a taxi or private ambulance. By the time they had reached the hospital using public transport the baby was dead in the mother's womb. There have been further complications and, though she has conceived again twice, she has miscarried both times.
New Zoi raised funds to purchase an equipped ambulance and, soon after when it became apparent that a Health Centre was needed too, land was bought and construction begun. Since opening, MHC has served well over 5,000 patients in the community. Costs to patients are kept minimal and, in cases of dire need, are free. The District Commissioner, making a surprise visit, said he was so encouraged to see MHC working with such high standards and serving the community with high professional capacity, stating "this is one of the best health facilities I have ever inspected".
Current facilities: an ECG, ultrasound, laboratory, pharmacy, 2 emergency beds.
Needs for the future include an operating theatre, labour suite, more beds and greater capacity for in-patients.
There is an immediate need for help to cover staff salaries. If you would like further information please get in touch. Donations can be made by using the "How to support us" tab above.
